To ensure a pleasant transition in a new work place the best thing to do would be to befriend your boss or the person who you will be working with. Creating that bond will make it easier to deal with any obstacle and will benefit you overall. Also, being friendly to everyone who already works there might be a good idea, since they already know what they are doing and you will be working with them for five weeks it would be nice to have friends. Keeping in mind where you are, being early, and respecting the place which you will be working in should ease the transition. I anticipated being placed in a room with uncontrollable children with a teacher that would not do anything to calm the children down...basically the worst scenario possible. Thankfully the daycare in which I am working in is not like that and so far everything has gone smoothly in the classrooms. I have been very friendly with everyone and have acquired some friends already. It was easy for me to get along with most of the teachers there because we can communicate in Spanish which also helped me make some of the children more comfortable.I have enjoyed two days of working with two-year-olds and look forward to more great time with the children.
ReplyDeleteTo ensure a smooth transititon into a new workplace, I think people need to be open minded. They need to be open minded to new ideas, new people and new things to do. Also, to ensure a smooth transition people should learn how to listen. If you dont listen you do what you have to do and you wont get work done and you will probably get fired. I havent really faced much challenge but i think that is because I listened to everything they told me and if I didnt know something, I asked. One of my strengths is that I listen to what I have to do. Also, I always get my work done and work well with others. ALso, I ask questions if I dont get something. This is very important because if you dont ask, you might do it wrong and it looks good on your part because it shows that you want to do your work right.
ReplyDeleteTo ensure a good transition into work you must learn how to observe your workplace. i have realized that by observing and listening to everything that my superiors are telling me I am learning as much I can. In my first few days I learned that there is a specific way to write newspaper articles and although my employer gave me constructive criticism I learned and have been writing more articles. I know that my strength of being determined and trying to improve myself I will succeed in the journalism world.
ReplyDeleteWell considerations that should be taken is that now that we are actually having the chance to be independent we can really show your maturity to new people. A way to transition would be to really show you want to be there do your work with enthusiam because we will be looked at wrong because honestly if you don't want to at least show you want to be there don't waste your time. Actually i havent faced any problem i first opposed working with kids but they are the best i look forward to playing with them and spending my day with them. I guess the problem im going to face is getting to close to the kids and then having to let go. The strenghths i have is pretty much the skills my mom has taught me working with kids of any age and also my babysitting job i have. I'm happy this job is wonderful and im improving with y maturity and how to handle myself with kids that are not y age being more understandable.
ReplyDelete@himalay You always just doing everything right and not messing up doesnt really help us because we get into the routine of not failing and not learning from mistakes because i enjoy my job but i messed up even though they were minor i learned and i try to do things taking the initiative because i know i have to other then that the told me to.
ReplyDelete@marquita I agree with the observing because at my site i have learned a lot seeing how the senior counselors do things and then ive learned to see how i can also be there but it all has to do with just respecting your workplace also do't you think?
@denise As like i said with marquita i totally agree with the befriending idea because its a closer relationship then just employer and superior is pretty dull so be brave lol
One strength I possess that helped me adapt or get acclimated to my new job assignment was that I already worked with children several times before I worked at The Little Gym of Harlem. To me working with children is not very easy the first time someone does it. I believe it takes skill and practice to work efficiently with children, which is why working with children before is one of my strengths. Working with children at my previous jobs enabled me to perform my new job without much difficulty because I already experienced it. Another strength that I possess is being able to communicate well with others. My new job assignment requires that I speak to not only children but also their parents. When parents have a question I am able to answer it clearly and to the best of my ability due to my communication skills. My final strength that I possess is energy. Although many would not consider energy to be a strength I do. At T.L.G of Harlem you have to be a very energetic person because there are constantly things to do and no one is ever sitting down for too long.
ReplyDeleteWhen starting a new job one consideration I think that everyone will agree with is to make sure to listen. Listening meaning the people at your work place who have good intentions for you, like your supervisor or someone who has been there for a while and just knows best. That's something that will make your job some much easier and you will not be stressed out about your job.Another, thing to consider when starting a new job is to be friendly and open to new things. This will open more doors for you because, the more things that you allow yourself to do at one job. When its time for you to get another one you know a more then the average man. That's one thing I'm doing at my job is being open to do new things. So far after my first few days of work I can honestly say I haven't faced any problems. I'm adapting to my job very quickly. I enjoy working with kinds now I never really did at all but I do now. I also love to clean and that's something that's show's for its self when you come into the center. The strenghts that I have that help me to do my job so well is that I'm a hard worker and things are always done to the best of my ability. I am always wiling to try something new and do it the best way I can. That's what makes me so perfect for the job that I have now there are a lot of new things for me to experience.
ReplyDelete@Ashelyd that's something I'm not going to agree with so much because people who just do everything rite they most likely lost plenty of times. The reason they are doing everything rite is because they have developed the habbit to do things that way. I feel as if doing everything rite and not doing anything wrong is teaching you something. Its teaching you That the habbits that u have obtained to make sure u keep getting everything rite is great, but when you fall then since you always been someone who doesn't do anything wrong it won't brake you spirit. It will just build it and most likely it won't happen again.
ReplyDeleteIn response to Denise I agree that the best thing to do is befriend someone in authority where you work. I already experienced three days of work and I would have to say being friendly and open to everyone has been very helpful. I also agree with Denise that if you create a bond between people in your workplace than things will seem much easier. During my first couple of days at work I was very open to my co-workers and I made it a point to introduce myself to them and remember their names (very important). Making small talk with your co-workers makes you seem more open and welcoming which will help you in the long run because it will be easier to talk to someone you already know. After becoming more familiar with my co-workers I was able to ask questions and receive help with certain things I was having trouble with in the workplace. Being friendly, considerate, and doing my part at work has made going to work a blast for me. At my job it is very important that you are open to doing different things such as; answering questions from parents over the phone, taking a child to the bathroom, or even cleaning the bathroom. It is important to know that at most jobs you need to be open to do more then you are required, to go above and beyond.
ReplyDelete@Alan well actually the point im trying to make isnt just that really. I mean you have to trip over some rocks to know because your first few days arent alwayhs goin to be the best depending on your site. For example i made a a few teeny mistakes but i didnt really get in trouble just advised so for many cases you dont always want to be that but then i also agree with your point that it builds you up and all your good skills so your point is valid dealing with the workplace
ReplyDeleteTo ensure a smooth transition in a workplace, I believe is first getting to know the people you will be working with. It's best to get to know your boss and try to make friends with the people you will be working with. Create a good impression... respect others, and arrive early to your worksite. A challenge I faced was the "icebreaker"... meeting new people. Though it was ackward that I did not know anyone there, I kept an open mind. Right now I made a few friends and it helped me create a more comfortable environment. My strengths are being determined, and openminded. My first week was a bit werid and I felt out of place but that WAS my first week... I was determined to work hard at something I know I'm good at and I needed to be openminded to a new setting and to new people. I'm going on to my third week and I'm looking forward to it. My advice is stay openminded and hold through long enough to find out that you might actually enjoy what you're doing. Don't judge on the first fews days.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of the suggestions that were given to ease the transition to the new work place and I definitely agree that part of the first week is adjusting and being open minded towards your job requirements. Also, for all the people working with children would advice you to double check with your supervisor on what you are and not allowed to do.For example, on my first day the teacher that I worked with told me to take the children to the bathroom but I did not find out until later that taking children to the bathroom was not my responsibility under my supervisor's regulations. On the first day I was not aware of the things that I was allowed and not allowed to do with the children which was a challenge for me. I usually babysit children when I am at school but there are no rules on how I can play with the children or anything like that. At the daycare however I am not allowed to even let the children sit on my lap, which was hard to try to explain to two year olds that they are not allowed to sit on my lap. I agree with Ashley that it will be hard to say goodbye and leave the children behind because in two days they have become very attached to me and I to them.
ReplyDeleteDuring my first few days of work I was challenged with many things. One of the main things that I was challenged with is being able to keep up with the over energetic 2-12 years olds where I work. At my job it is extremely important that I help keep the classes structured. This was something I struggled with because for me it was very hard to cater to every child's need while still helping my co-workers conduct a class. On about my second day I was given a piece of advice, which was to just keep talking to the children and encouraging them because the more I talk the less they will. After taking the advice one of my supervisors gave me I am now able to help run classes with ease and soon I will be running my own classes. After overcoming this challenge I realized that it is very important to get to know your co-workers and supervisors because they can give you little tips and hints that will only help you complete your job without much struggle.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the considerations, and knowing your coworkers and your boss is most important to me. For my first week I can honestly say that I was completely lost in my surroundings. From the outside, my work site does not seem so big (never jugde a book by it's cover) and when I was inside I knew it was under construction but I didn't know that the main hallways were. So getting around the site was difficult, but I was fortunate to know the people who knew the place well and how to get around. My advice... if you get lost or you don't know if you should go a certain way, ASK someone who works there.
ReplyDeleteIn order to ensure a smooth transition into a work place, flexibility and being attentive should help that transition. If you go into the job thinking without being flexible about what the employer wants and needs, it shows how unprofessional you can be. Being attentive to what others in the workplace are doing can also ensure a smooth transition because, especially if you're doing office work, you need to be aware of how things are being done by current employees.
ReplyDeleteEveryone experiences difficulty trying to adjust themselves into a new environment especially adjusting to working. Challenges I have faced during my stay at the law firm at which I work, my employer is extremely demanding for everything to be perfect and if that means that he will take you off the job that you're doing, then that's what it takes. I have tried for the past week to follow his every demand exactly how he wants it. I have not messed up YET, but there is always room for improvement.
ReplyDeleteThe Considerations that I have applied to make my transition into my new work place smooth is by making sure that I pay attention and comprehend what my supervisor's instructions are for a certain task. Also, I have built friendly relationships with my co-workers. Its is beneficial to me that my co-workers are also my friends because whenever I have a question and my supervisor is busy, I know that I can rely on my co-workers to help me. One challenge that I faced on my first day was to write an article that was due the same day. This was a challenge because I was not expecting such an important task on my first day. The strengths that I possess is that I am able to work through problems and find solutions. I am usually able to figure out a solution to a problem and complete my task successfully.
ReplyDeleteTo make sure you have a smooth transition in your new work place, you need to have a positive attitude. You need to pay to attention to what your co-workers or boss tells you to do. You also need to be able to ask questions when you are confused with something. I currently work at the Little Gym of Harlem. I have faced a lot of challenges. You need to have a lot of energy when you are dealing with the kids for numerous of hours. It is difficult when you don't have that much energy to be showing the children. Another challenge I faced was at times not having the children really listen to you and follow directions. The more I work and get to know the kids, the more respect they have to you. So that's one challenge I found the solution to. Strengths that I have gained from my continuing experience is working through some difficult problems, asking for help and learning everyday so I know how to solve situations that might happen the future.
ReplyDelete@marquita- i agree with you when you were talking about observing your work place. it actually helps because in my situation the more i observe the better i am at my tasks. when i see one of my co-workers discipling the child a bit, i learn how to do that if i was in that case.
ReplyDelete@denise- i agree with you on befriending your co-workers or whom ever you work with. that's one challenge i'm trying to overcome. especially at the little gym of harlem where i work, it helped becoming friendly with some of the other workers because my time was less stressful.
@connie - I pretty much agree with everything you talked about. the first two days or so was hard because there are so many workers with different schedules and you don't get to know all of them. but getting to know when you can makes it easy for me to work because you don't feel out of place
ReplyDelete@ alisa- i understand your challenges because we work together and they are really similiar. but you can probably agree that the more we work there, the better it is because we learn more things everyday
a challenge i might face later on is (agreeing with ashleydiaz) letting certain kids go because you get so close to them seeing them a lot during the week.
To make sure you are able to make a smooth transition into a new workplace my recommendations would be to get to know who you are working with see who you can and cannot joke around with. this is important because if your not knowing who you are dealing with you will make enimies. in my first days of work working with the children i have encountoured several for example trying to remmeber the childrens names i dont know how teaches do it but i have fun trying and its getting easyier i have remembered 12 names now and more each day its interesting and fun. my strongest atribute that i possess would be just a plain attutide and friendly ness that i have. i am prety sure my supervisor likes me because im always the one he looks to in a time of need. also the triat of always ready for an event when it arrises.
ReplyDeleteMaking sure that you are able to make a smooth transition into a new workplace, would be to learn about everybody before you start interacting with them. This information is crucial because people that always concentrate on the work may not like to be disturb by listening to your side jokes. Thus, they think you are not taking your job easily and will not treat you with respect. I have faced a couple of challenges in my first few days. The one that really troubles me is remembering the kids name. I keep on switching between groups so I have trouble remembering a few of the kids or end up mixing them up. The strength I posses that will aid me in getting me suited for my job assignment is that I am dedicated to what I do. So I know I will learn the name of the kids soon. Additionally, whenever another counselor needs help and I am available I will help them or if something is missing I would get it.
ReplyDelete@Jetson - I concur with your situation because the kids we work with change their feelings towards one another rapidly. one second you could play around with them the next they are complaining that you did something wrong. Furthermore, learning the names of the kids is challenging because some kids look alike or you have trouble pronouncing the kids name.
ReplyDeleteThe following steps should be taken to ensure a smooth transition in the work place: One must acknoweldge a time and place for their actions and think about any other professional manners that would be curdious in the work place. They must also follow alll guide lines entailed for their job description. In the first few days of work I faced the challenge of being efficient at my tasks, but quickly learned to have better usage of my time. I also faced the challenge of being to work on time, but I managed by the second day of work to come on time for the rest of the week. The strengths that I possess is that I'm kind, hard The following steps should be taken to ensure a smooth transition in the work place: One must acknoweldge a time and place for their actions and think about any other professional manners that would be curdious in the work place. In the first few days of work I faced the challenge of being efficient at my tasks, but quickly learned to have better usage of my time. The strengths that I possess is that I'm kind, hardworking, and driven. I also am able to follow directions, and I consider myself a leader. All of these characteristics will aid me getting acclimated to my new job assignment.
ReplyDelete@Himalay I agree that you should be open-minded while working at your job site. At my job there are a lot of college students that have their own educated opinions on different things and they have really taught me a lot. I learn from them everyday and am open-minded to the things they tell me because I know it will come in handy later.
ReplyDelete@Marquita I agree with you because I have learned that observing your job site is one of the most important things to do when starting a new job. By observing your job you learn what you can and can not do. This is important because you need to know what the normal routine at your job will be so that you can be productive
@Jetson I agree when you said that you need to get to know your co-workers because while working at my site I have witnessed people having bad interactions with one another because one person was playing around at the wrong time. As a result, I learned when and who I can joke around with.
ReplyDelete@Freddy I also thought it was difficult getting to know people at my job because people are so focused on work that their is hardly any interaction between us. I try to take advantage of the times when it is not so tense to talk to my co-workers so I can get to know them.
In order to ensure a smooth transaction into my new work place, the main consideration or step I should take is to make sure that I am open to all things coming my way. Heading into this job experience, I know that I will learn a whole bunch of new things. I also, have to learn how to take these new things and incorporate them into my work. Also, along with this step comes working partners. I have to be open to listening to their ideas and see how they compare to mine. By doing this, I am expanding my knowledge about my work field and also building respectful relationships with my partners.
ReplyDelete@Kandice – I totally agree with your considerations and steps because at the end of the day, there is a time and place for everything. The things you do in your job not only reflect you but the company itself. If you don’t behave in a professional manner, the company would most likely get rid of you because they want to make sure that they are being represented well with the smartest people.

ReplyDeleteAlso, when the idea of working and having a job comes to mind, you know that there are many challenges that you have to encounter and persevere from. One challenge that I have encountered so far in my work place is not being fully prepared heading in my job. I remember that on my first day, I didn’t have enough background information about the company. Because of this, I was already behind in my work. Everyone else knew what was going on unlike me. Another challenge that I feel I might encounter is the idea of having to deal with accepting other people’s ideas. I do feel that I am a good listener but at the same time, one weakness of mine is that I always tend to think that I’m right. Because of this, I might bump heads with others if I do not go along with their ideas. This might prevent my team from moving forward with our job if there are constant disagreements.

ReplyDelete@Marquita - I also feel that one of my strengths is being determined just like you. This ability can help me in many ways. I know that deep down nothing is going to stop me from accomplishing my goal. I will do whatever it takes in order to get my work done. This helps me out a lot because I can help lead my team if they are feeling discouraged and help them persevere through any obstacles they may face.
ReplyDelete@ Freddy – I agree with the fact that you feel that one of your strengths is that you stick to what to what you do. I remember how last year when we was in the summer program in KITC, no matter what obstacle you faced, you never gave up and tried your hardest. That’s a good quality to have in the working field because owners and managers know that they can count on you to handle any task.
@shaq186 not having enough info on your job is a common mistake, but now you know in the future that you will have as much info as you need. Thats what these jobs are preparing us for, to learn from our mistakes. That is what I am learning everything I mess up on, I will not do again. We are suppose to make mistakes and we will learn from them. It is all a learning process.
ReplyDelete1. When beginning a new job what i believe to be important is not being afraid to ask questions. It is always important to ask questions if you don't understand something because the whole idea of this internship is to learn about a possible career. If you don't ask questions you wont understand whats going on, what you have to do, and you wont be learning anything about this specific place that you are placed in. It is also important to ask anyone for help. At no point should you have idle hands because in most cases there is always some thing to do.
ReplyDelete2. At first I did not always ask questions even when i did not understand even tho the lawyers i worked with insisted that it was no problem if i did have a question. Due to that it took me a little longer to learn everything i need to.
3. I posses plenty of skills that allow me to get acclimated to my new job. I am a quick learner which in most cases helped me pick up quickly to what needed to be done around the office. I am an outgoing person who is outspoken which helped me about whenever i had something on my mind or even just asking my bosses if they needed help or if they had anything for me to do. In all, I have a variety of things that helped me adjust to this new environment.
For me in order to guarantee a smooth transition I made sure I paid close attention to the other workers who have more experience than I do. That way I can observe the ways that they find success in what they do and follow in their footsteps. In terms of challenges, where I was placed was not my desired place of work. However in order to make the best of my workplace I had to have a positive outlook on the situation. The kids at my workplace have many different personalities and can sometimes be irritating. All I had to do is remain calm and follow the advice of the older workers and the rest was smooth-sailing. Using my ability to easily adapt to different situations helped me to find success and I am continuing to find success.
ReplyDeleteIn order to ensure a smooth transition in the work place, I feel that it is important to get to know the people you are working with , and close attention to what it is they do. I think you must also pay close attention to the director & co-workers' statements. In terms of challenges, I didn't exactly face any at work. I think this is due to the fact that I listened to my director and co-workers Honestly ,my first day was a bit hectic because I was plced in a room with different children that each needed attention in one way or the other. However, I've learned to cope with them. I think this is beacause I saw how my co-workers handled them. I can honestly say my strength at my work site is listening to the advice of my co-workers and maintaining a positive attitude at all times.
ReplyDeleteTo make sure you are able to make a smooth transition into a new workplace is you need to make sure what kind of environment your in and the type of people your working with. you need to make sure you get along with your co-workers and your fellow counselors. During the first few days I had trouble with the names of the kids and whether to be nice or mean to them. the strength I think I possess is I'm able to keep up with their energy during the day.
ReplyDeleteIn order to ensure a smooth transition into a new work place, it is important to get to know the people that you would be working with. This ensures that you start to feel more comfortable and get a familiar feeling for the area, especially if it is unfamiliar to you. A next consideration is to pay attention to ways that the place you are working in is run. This helps so that you get see the routine and wouldn't be lost when coming to something you are expected to know. Challenges that I expected to face the first week was having to work with people that didn’t know. I knew this would be hard for me due to the fact that when it comes to new people I tend to shy off and feel out of my element. Strengths that I have accumulated that would help me with me with the job are the fact that I have worked with children before. This proved to help me a lot because I knew what to expect and had a sense of what it is that I would be doing. After working in my camp for the last few days, I found it very exciting, especially with the positive vibe that the children give off every time they walk through the doors.
ReplyDeleteTo make sure you are able to make a smooth transition into a new workplace is you need to be positive and you cannot show your weakness thus, you need to show a good first impression. The challenge faced so far is I am to lenient to the children. For example when they ask a counselor that they want something, and they would come to me because they know I would allow them to do whatever they please. I learned how to say no because thats one of the challenges I had to face. My strength is I could have a good time with them and when something is bothering them I could tell and then I make them feel better. Furthermore, I dont stress myself out easily.
ReplyDeleteTo ensure a smooth transition at a new workplace you need to make sure that you listen well. You don’t want to make someone repeat themselves several times because that might end up making them upset. You should also make sure that you display the kinder side of yourself to insure a good first impression. Your coworkers can be of great help to you in the future and being kind is a good way to make new friends. This being my first job and having to immediately jump into working eight hours a day, it was not as bad as one would think. I do come home tired due to my inconsistent schedule and hours of labor, but I have been able to handle it pretty well. For the most part people have been really friendly and helpful whenever I needed it. Although there are sometimes when I feel that I am being taken advantage of because I am a volunteer, and people feel as though I, along with the other volunteer, can do all of their work. Continuing to listen to others and asking for help will aid me in getting accustomed to my new job assignment. I believe that by continuing to do that and also by pushing through the long days by thinking positively, I will get the best out of this experience.
ReplyDeleteSome considerations that should be taken to ensure a smooth transition into a new work place are to have a positive attitude and to befriend all your coworkers. You also have to not show your weaknesses .For example if your shy try not to be shy. Some Challenges i had was trying to figure out my schedule because i never got one and having to learn how to say no to the children when they ask for something that they really dont need. Some of my strengths are that im able to make the kids respect me and i make firends easily which makes a better working enviroment. Another strength i have was that i was able to learn the kids names quickly.
ReplyDeleteTo ensure a smooth transition into a new work place you should make sure you feel comfortable working there. In order for it to be smooth you also should enjoy working there because you don’t want to be unhappy at your work place. Some challenges I’ve faced is working in the office with no AC and dealing with construction workers, working on the building as I try to work. Working at this job, I think I will gain flexibility, patience, and control.
ReplyDeleteWhen one begins at a new work place, many things are needed to be taken in consideration. I work with kids, so one thing was behavior around kids. even though we may not believe it, kids look up to us. Anything we do, they think it's acceptable for them to do as well. This can be a challenge for some because they are so comfortable with their daily routine, that they may forget when kids are around, and say inappropriate things. Another issue could be discipline towards kids. This is a persona; struggle. I am extremely nice to children. If you have ever worked with children, you will understand that they can either respect you while you're nice or run over you completely. I have learned to be a disciplinary figure as well as a nice, cool, relaxed one, in order to gain respoect from the children. The strengths that i have are listening skills and leadership skills, which are important when working with children, so that you can listen to their many stories and problems, and lead them on trips and other activities
ReplyDelete@Raffany I agree to befriend all of your coworkers because you don't want tension with someone you work with everyday for 8 hours. Also it's good networking for jobs in the future. Also the showing of weakness is a good one as well. My co worker told me he came very strict and mean, and thens showed his relaxed side, because the kids remember first impressions the most.
ReplyDeleteAnother challenge i faced was Knowing all of the kids names. It took me 2 days but it was embarrassing sometimes being confident of a child's name, but getting it completely wrong.Another challenge i faced was getting to my site on time. I do work very far, right by the Brooklyn Bridge, and it does take me a considerable amount of time to get there. I continue to work on this challenge each morning when i leave for work.
ReplyDeleteIn order to ensure a smooth transition into a new work place, one must take a variety of steps, including the asking of questions if one does not understand something, the befriending or acknowledgement of colleagues, and the quick adjustment to a new system or environment. In fact, I have made good friends with my fellow KIPP counselors, and good friends with several non KIPP counselors as well. I have also made friendships with the kids we work with, and so far (and hopefully never), they have not taken advantage of it (very, very good)
ReplyDeletePersonally, the biggest challenge I have is getting to work on time (which I have been doing for the most part, but not all the time). KIPP has provided me with a monthly metrocard, for which I am very grateful. In addition, due to receiving this metrocard from KIPP, I no longer have to wait in a long line to buy a new metro card every morning, thus, allowing me to be on time to work, or 1 or 2 minutes late rather than 30 minutes late daily (first two days, but time made up). My commute also takes an hour and 15 minutes, so I give myself 2 hours and 15 minutes from when I wake up (6:45), shower, brush my teeth, eat (or else I can't operate), and commute.
ReplyDeleteI believe that my outgoing attitude will help me when it comes to working at my site. My supervisor already knows me from last year, so she was already familiar with me. However, the other counselors did not know me, because two are from KIPP star, and one is from Academy, but she was in eighth grade when I was in fifth. Also, some of the kids seemed to take a liking to me, particularly the older ones (12-13). Some of these older kids seem to share the same interests as me (although I question how they are allowed to be interested in the same things I am, because I definitely not enticed by pre-teen shows and comics as they should be). I also try and treat the kids following the golden rule. If I was a kid, would I really like to be yelled at for the slightest infraction? Therefore, I make an effort to constructively criticize the children first, which usually works. However, if it does not, then I resort to other methods of disciplining them.
ReplyDeleteTo ensure a smooth transition into any unfamiliar setting, uncluding a new job it is important to remain open and approachable. In order for people to approach you, they must feel a positive vibe from you. Body is language is key. By being mindful of messages that your facial expressions and body stances deliver, you make yourself more approachable.
ReplyDeleteSince working at Hansborough,I have encountered a few problems. The firstbeing that the kids like to annoy each other which in turn aggrivates you, the counselor. As I said, patience has been key. Another problem I've come across is a lack of respect between the older camp staff and the staff of the recreation center. At the end of the day, this has nothing to do with me but it's hard to work in a place where you know that people don't respect eacother.
ReplyDeleteBeing able to listen and take direction is something that has help me through the past couple of weeks.Another strength I have is flexibility. Working at a recreation center(which is opened to the community)things happen which hinder the camp from doing activities that were planned.Comming up with activites for the kids to do on the spot has been useful.
ReplyDeleteA smooth transition into a new work place begins with good relationships between the employers, employees, and any other people who you come into contact with during work hours. In my case, the people involved are the camp supervisors, and the children who attend the camp 5 days a week, for 8 hours each day. My first few days, I anticipated that getting some of the children to follow directions would be somewhat difficult, since I work with a group of 6-7 year olds. However, I observed my supervisors and quickly noticed that a threat of a “time-out” was enough to settle any dispute between the kids. Another big part of ensuring a smooth transition into a work place is being receptive and absorbing the way things are done in the new place you enter. The kids quickly took a liking to me and the other counselors once we learned how to balance between keeping order and being likeable counselors.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kipp through College students, its funny seeing my teammates grow. The steps you need to ensure a smooth transition into a new work place is communication, building a relationship with the workers around you, and effort. These steps are important because when your struggling or need help you a friend or co-worker that could help you guide the directions you were ordered. Relationship helps your job be easy ,and communicating helps you feel comfortable with your boss,co-workers,and other Kipp students.Effort shows how much work you put in and how could you succeed the task that was demanded. Effort also show how much you care about your work and how much it means to you. Another way, Effort show how much you really thankful for what you have. The more effort the more thankfulness and kindness you would get back from your workers. Finally, the workers would also appreciate the work you done and you would end you up in a successful career in your life at your job.
ReplyDeleteSome problems I faced at my job was being nervous and not sure what to do the first day because I would think negatively about the task that has to be completed. I would think I would be late and not handling the kids I was with in the camp. But being patient and communicating with the people around you. Thinking positive would help you thinking of your self a better person and push you to show your abilities. Also, giving positive comments to the kids in my work made me understand how little ones work and adult relationship.
ReplyDeleteIf your thinking negatively about your self it'll wouldn't help you to do better at your job. Its going to put you down and make you do a mistake which you know you could do better. Staying focus Positively would help you do a Good Job at your job.
Strengths do you possess that will aid you in getting acclimated to your new job assignment was working with one another like the other workers and my Kipp students. When I needed help,I would ask for help my teammates would help me and correct me to do better at work. My teammates would help me how to respect and treat the little kids. I learned team work would make your job better and successful. Another strength I processes that I will get acclimate is getting there on time because time is important. Time show your committed to the rules and respect what is needed to take care off.
ReplyDeleteTo ensure a smooth transition into my new work place, there are certain steps I need to take. One of them is my wardrobe. Its time to stop wearing my regular clothes and start wearing a white shirt, tie, and slacks. I need to dress professional for work, even if it is 90 degrees outside. That actually might be a challenge for the first week. Wearing all of that is very uncomfortable when it is hot. However, I know for sure that the KIPP STAR teachers are going to be wearing professional dress, so I am just going to have to deal with it. If they can do it, I can also. Second, I need to change my language. There are certain words that arent appropiate for the workplace. I am going to be around adults who do not want to hear street language while they are working. I wouldnt want to hear that either if I was them. They already hear it in class anyway. Why would they want to hear it in the office, while they are relaxing? Little words like "yeah" and "huh" which we dont really see as inappropiate for work are actually the exact opposite. You have to say yes or no when someone asks you a question. If you didnt understand what they said, ask them if they can repeat themself. Finally, I need to use all of my social skills to succeed in my job. I am usually an antisocial person. However, being shy and quiet is not going to help me get the job done. I have to talk with my co- workers. If I stay in a corner for the whole day and say nothing, how am I or anybody going to get anything done? Even though being sociable isnt one of my strengths, working hard, staying focused, and being determined are. These strenghts will aid me in getting acclimated with my new job assignment.
ReplyDelete@ Jodie I totally agree on your statement about body language in the workplace. My facial expression tends to show my emotions, so when I'm angry my facial expression shows that. However, in the work place I've learned to maintain a positive attitude because this is attitude ensures that I can be a productive Co worker. I also discovered that in meetings my posture is always professional as to allude to my boss that I'm an attentive worker. Your comment also reminded me of a saying that I thought to be cliche: You catch more bees with honey than with vinegar, but in the work place I find this statement to be more true in my life than ever. My attitude adaption to the work place has allowed me to display positivity making this internship a pleasant experience.
ReplyDelete@ Denise I agree with the fact that one should befriend their boss, but I also think one should establish a line of conduct never to cross. I love the fact that your are using Spanish as a way to communicate and make the children feel comfortable as well. In my workplace, I deal a lot with teens and keeping my professional attitude separate from my work with teens has helped me relate to them on a deeper level because they see me as a leader and not as an authoritative figure.
@ Himalay Open mindedness is a key point to make because my job deals with a lot of different opinions. Although we don't all agree sometimes, I'm able to discuss why I have a better argument. Open mindedness also helps to ensure that everyone's voices is heard is respected.
open mindedness is very important in the workplcae as my boss and i have had to look at stories in a different context. i think that work has been a job in which everything can change so quickly so i have learn how to be flexible and learn how to keep a open mind. work has been great!
ReplyDeleteTo ensure a smooth transition into a new work place you have to adapt into the environment. Some of the challenges i faced through the first few weeks is getting the kids to listen to you .The strenghts that i possess that will aid me in getting acclimated to my new job assignment is being a quick adapter and do as i'm told in the work place .
